Importing Text from Figma

Best practices for importing Figma text into Play.

Updated this week

Overview

To maintain the type settings you use in Figma, we currently import text into Play as a “Figma Text” layer. Technically, this layer is an image which must be turned into a text element in Play.

We've created this Figma file with step by step instructions on importing from Figma to Play.

Editing Figma Text

Click the "Make Editable" button in Play to turn Figma Text into real text that can be edited. Once editable, you can adjust Play's text element settings.

Note: There may be slight differences when making text editable in Play.

If exporting to Xcode, be sure to make any Figma Text editable. Figma text images will not be included in the export.

Custom Fonts

If you're using a custom font in Figma, be sure to upload it in Play before making text editable. If you don't, the text will revert to the System Font when made editable.

SF Symbol as Text in Figma

No need to upload SF Symbols to Play. They are supported natively in Play as well as in code!
